Thunder and lightning and trumpets and smoke!
God lit on the mountain, and from there He spoke.
His statutes are holy, His judgments are right--
Thunder and lightning and smoke.
God lit on the mountain, His presence a flame,
The smoke of His holiness shrouding His name.
He stooped to come down to the top of mount’s height.
God lit the mountain aflame.
The smoke of his holiness made people fall
Flat onto their faces, and to Moses call,
“Oh, speak to God for us, or death is our plight!”
The smoke caused the people to fall.
Flat onto their faces, while Moses arose
To bring down the covenant, statutes. They chose
To enter the promise with blood-sprinkled plight.
Flat from their faces, arose.
To bring down the covenant new, Jesus came
And sprinkled His blood to abolish man’s shame.
On earth, glory hidden, but still is His light.
To bring it to us, Jesus came.
He sprinkled His blood, and ascended on high
But when He returns, then the judgement is nigh
For people continually rather the night.
He sprinkled His blood up on high.
When He returns, thunder and lightning and smoke
Pour out from High Heaven where sin does provoke.
Flat onto their faces when faced with His might—
Thunder and lightning and smoke.
