Storm Across the Heavens

A hush wraps all creation, not a bird dares voice a trill.
The wind suspends its breath. Sky bends its ear. Each leaf is still.
A shiver whispers through the air and echoes silently;
The blazing sun veils face and bows with grave humility.
A mighty rush--the top boughs stir as herald gust appear:
The chariot of the mighty king is swiftly drawing near!
The grass bends low upon the ground, no reed dare shows its head,
Bird covers face with feathered wing, fish hides in riverbed.
The trees give shout with grainy voice, the river roars its cry:
Lift up your eyes to heaven now, the King is passing by!

Chariot clouds with thundering wheels
Shudders the sky, each granite hill reels.
Power in voice drowns out howling gale.
Spiraling storm pulls back cloudy veil;
Glory revealed enlightens the earth,
Blinding the eyes and hurling darts forth.

The glitter sharp of diamond hail and pearly drops of rain
Are strewn from treasure chest unbound from servants in His train.
Before the bounty of the king the earth grows meek and soft,
The worms writhe up and beg Him not to curse them and be wroth.
The king is swiftly moving on, the trumpets softly fade.
The frogs first dare to voice their awe of majesty displayed.
And even as the king sweeps on, His presence lingers still:
The rich aroma in his wake, air tingles with His thrill.
