Five people wrote a story for the story rules of “Building Falls”. Only one has submitted it to me (Thank you, Lexi Anders!) Alas, yes, that means mine is not ready yet, either. More on that soon.
New Stories
By Lexi Anders
I shouldn’t have come. I might be convinced that my friend was innocent, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. Why does everyone look at me so hopefully? Why do they keep asking for my help? Why is that hooded man joining me for breakfast?
I wish they’d just let me fade into a quiet, guilt-free life.

The Lay of King Arjasp (not an active page yet)
By Hannah Christensen

It was only a matter of time before the Persians invaded. King Arjasp knew Turan did not have the strength to withstand them. To remain free, he must employ a greater power than even Babylon in her strength. But from the land of Babylon came tales of one mightier far than even Nebuchadnezzar had been…
A Building Falls story.
I wrote a first draft of this story that speculates on what may have happened if a ruler of old had taken to heart all the decrees and announcements Daniel records being broadcast throughout the ancient world concerning the Most High God. It was fun to write, but I did it in somewhat archaic English. Think The Silmarillion, or the KJV Bible. I started on a second draft, more fleshed out and not so formal to read, but only got half way through before January started and I switched stories (to a much longer story, of which The Lay of King Arjasp is but a backstory). To make matters worse, a lay is really a story poem. I have played around with putting parts of it into verse, but cannot encourage anyone to hope it will ever be complete in that form.
My inclination was to hopefully finish the second draft and post that…sometime. At the cousin’s party, though, the vote turned to reading what I had complete rather than the more worked on partial story. Are there any thoughts from readers? Should I wait as originally planned? Share the ‘formal’ version? Change the title until such a time it is accurate? Post your opinions in the comments. I am curious to hear.
New Rules-“Reversed Tropes”
For this story, break at least 2 tropes.
If you’re wondering, “What are you talking about?”, a trope is a story cliche, like:
- rags to riches
- love at first sight
- dragon captures princess
- chosen one
- poor orphan main character
- enemies to in love
To break one, tell a story that changes one around. Maybe a rich old man chooses himself as the problem solver? Or a dragon goes from riches to rags after capturing a dwarf instead?
Be ready to declare what tropes you chose.
For additional challenge fun: the more broken tropes, the better! But ‘negative points’ for any actual tropes that slip in.
No, there’s no actual points. But you understand the idea.
Look for a due date in May.
